Young artists celebrate winning Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition

Bury pupils, Libby, Florence and Scarlett joined the Mayor and Mayoress this Saturday (13th Dec) to receive their prizes for their winning Christmas card designs.

The winners were presented with book vouchers, tokens, a bookmark and a badge. The winning designs alongside all other entries from children across Bury are on display in Bury Art Museum.

Councillor Noel Bayley, Mayor of Bury, said: “It is always a pleasure to run these competitions and celebrate the creativity of our young people in Bury. Libby’s design is now my official Christmas card, which I have sent out to our staff and community groups. I hope that while people enjoy Bury town centre, they can come and take a break from their Christmas shopping to take a look at all these wonderful designs. Choosing winners was a tough task given the amazing talent our young people demonstrated with their designs, and I look forward to celebrating more of our children’s talent and creativity next year.”

Councillor Charlotte Morris, Cabinet Member for culture, economy and skills, said: “There were plenty of in-depth deliberations to narrow down our choices to the final winners, but having too much talent to choose from is certainly not a problem to complain about. I was delighted to see all the wonderful designs our children had created, and I encourage anyone visiting Bury town centre to pop into the museum and take a look at all the brilliant Christmas cards designed by our Bury children. Congratulations to this year’s winners.”

The Christmas cards will remain on display throughout December. Bury Art Museum is open Christmas Eve (10am-4pm) and then closed until 2nd January when normal opening hours resume.
