Young people celebrated at Believe and Achieve awards

More than 300 people gathered at the annual Believe and Achieve awards to celebrate the triumphs of Bury’s children in care and care leavers.

The young people were nominated by their foster carers, teachers, social workers and other professionals to recognise their achievements in education, sport, creativity and the support they have given their community.

The ceremony at the Village Hotel included a meal, DJ and entertainment, with opening words from Bury Council’s chief executive Lynne Ridsdale, guest speaker Sean Sherwood and awards presented by councillors and Deputy Lieutenant Karan Lee.

Councillor Lucy Smith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate the successes of our young people, and this is a hugely important event in our calendar to show them how amazing we think they all are.”
