ESVAGT backs Operation Zero and a decarbonized offshore wind industry

ESVAGT joined several other energy companies in backing Operation Zero at the COP26 Event in Glasgow.

Operation Zero aims at decarbonizing the North Sea’s offshore wind farms by 2025, and ESVAGT is delighted to pursue that goal:

“As a market leader within SOV’s it makes perfect sense for us to have ambitions for CO2 neutrality. We are delighted to commit to the net zero ambition as a company as well as an industry. ESVAGT wants to be a world leader in our business area in supporting the green energy transition”, says Ian Taylor, ESVAGT UK Director.

ESVAGT has already implemented more modern power systems on vessels and replaced older and less fuel-efficient vessels with more modern vessels. ESVAGT has a set goal of CO2 neutrality no later than 2035 and zero emissions by 2050, and the company is dedicated to help in the development and maturing of technologies to reach the goals, Project Director Gerner Eskelund says:

“Technically, ESVAGT are ready to build 100% battery-powered vessels, including a supportive power plant with hydrogen fuel cells, to ensure that we can service an offshore wind farm with zero emissions and still maintain a full day-to-day operation under all circumstances”, he says:

“This vessel will be put into operation as soon as wind farms are able to provide us with charging facilities at sea. As the technology develops and the market matures further, we will also be able to convert existing vessels into battery-powered vessels. Further, we are engaged in multiple other pathways to fossil-free propulsion including hydrogen, ammonia and methanol and will seek to assist in maturing of these technologies as well”, Gerner Eskelund says.
