ESVAGT's wind turbine concept renders CTV superfluous

Safe Transfer Boats (STB) are central to ESVAGT’s SOV concept for efficient operations in offshore wind farms. The STB12 is approved for entering a harbour, reducing expenditure on Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) to a minimum.

"The STB12 is a cornerstone in ESVAGT’s SOV concept”, says Rune Østergaard, Head of Commercial Wind for ESVAGT:

"The STB12 makes it possible to go back to harbour and change crew, collect materials and spare parts. These tasks, usually chartered to a CTV, can be entirely performed within the framework of the SOV concept by using an STB12. This brings significant savings to the wind farm owner," he says.

ESVAGT operates with SOVs and STB12s in the offshore wind energy farms, the Butendiek, Baltic II, Belwind and Nobelvind 1. In all of these parks, the STB12 has proven itself to be a highly efficient tool for bringing technicians quickly and safely out to the wind turbines, including unscheduled stops or bringing technicians out to turbines that only need short visits.

"There are still opportunities for optimisation on both the price and the time available at the offshore wind farm, which become possible when wind farm owners take part in the SOV concept and optimise even more," says Rune Østergaard.

FACTS:

The popular STB12 makes it possible to change crews of up to eight technicians at a time, safely and comfortably. In addition, the STB12 can carry up to one ton of cargo. The boat can operate up to 200 sea miles from the mothership and the harbour.

The STB concept is flexible and is available in several sizes – from the small STB7 up to the largest so far, the STB15.
