Devastation: Wildfire in Estepona destroys over 10,000 hectares of forest land and property

Press release -

ECC need your support with relief drive for victims of the Estepona wildfire

Leading timeshare claims company European Consumer Claims (ECC) drive to provide help and relief for human and animal victims of catastrophic wildfire in Sierra Bermeja.

Week of hell

For seven interminable days and nights a thousand firefighters, two hundred and sixty military personnel and twenty two firefighting aircraft have been battling in Dantean conditions to tame an eighty five kilometre perimeter, double front blaze in the hills above Estepona.

Finally these weary heroes have bought the combustion under control with the help of rain, and with the inestimable loss of one of their brother bomberos.

Aftermath

The fire is now classed as level 0, meaning that the main danger is over, but there is plenty of work left to prevent flare-ups and completely vanquish the remaining flames and embers.

Meanwhile for the 3000 evacuated residents; their livestock; the wildlife and animal sanctuary pets, the immediate future is bleak as they gradually return to discover what they have lost in terms of respectively their property, their livelihoods and environment. Help is desperately needed for evacuees in general, and ECC is also focussing on a animal shelter called Adana

How you can help

You can help the ECC staff's charity drive by donating the following for those in need:

For evacuees:

  • Cleaning products
  • Non-perishable food items, such as tinned food, rice and pasta.

For the Adana animal shelter:

  • Pet food
  • Pet beds
  • Bowls for food/water
  • Blankets

The above items can be left at any of 23 drop off points along the Costa Del Sol, and also the ECC office reception near Miramar shopping centre in Fuengirola (ECC, floor 4, 4b, Av Carmen Saenz de Tejada 208, Mijas Costa, Malaga 29651)

GoFundMe

The Adana animal sanctuary also needs urgent financial help. For those who would like to donate money, ECC have set up a GoFundMe page. Every penny helps and goes straight to the Adana sanctuary.

Time to come together

"This fire has destroyed lives, property and livelihoods," says Andrew Cooper, CEO of ECC. "The 100 plus staff who work in our Spanish office insisted on reaching out in friendship to those affected, and we as a company want to do our part for the relief efforts.

"I'm proud of all our staff and their commitment to the wider community of the Costa Del Sol. I hope, as we all do, that the human and animal victims of this nightmare can get back to a semblance of normal life as soon as possible.

"We also send our sincere condolences to the family of heroic firefighter who lost his life battling this awful fire"
