Last week Go North East, the region’s largest bus operator and part of the Go-Ahead Group plc which was founded in Gateshead, hosted a ‘Women in Bus’ conference at Newcastle’s Vermont Hotel as part of the group’s Women in Bus initiative to increase gender diversity in bus roles.
Go North East, the region’s largest bus operator, and Gateshead College, the best performing college in England for post 16 education and training, have been commended with a Princess Royal Training Award for their workplace learning at a ceremony that was held at St James’s Palace in London.
Bus drivers Joanne Keenan, from Washington, and Sean Wheatley, from Chester-le-Street, have been acknowledged as two of the best in the UK at this year’s national Bus Driver of the Year competition.
Go North East, the region's largest bus company, and Gateshead College, the best performing college in England for post 16 education and training, have received a royal seal of approval for their unique Bus Driver Routeway training programme in this year’s Princess Royal Training Awards.
The region’s largest bus operator, Go North East has won the Best Apprentice/School Leaver Recruitment Strategy accolade at the national Recruiter Awards for its apprenticeship scheme, implemented to tackle the industry’s skills shortage and running in partnership with Gateshead College.
