Brighton Pride – Southern advice is to consider alternative travel arrangements

  • Reduced train service will mean very busy trains
  • Preston Park station will be closed for safety of passengers and staff
  • Queuing system at Brighton station will mean long waiting times

Train operator Southern is advising people going to this weekend’s Brighton Pride to consider alternative travel arrangements because of the on-going industrial dispute.

Southern is warning customers that because of continuing train crew shortages, some services may have to be cancelled and there will be a reduced service over the weekend to and from Brighton meaning very busy trains.

Also it says that given the large attendance expected at Pride, as usual there will be a queuing system in place at Brighton station for return journeys, and the closure of Preston Park station and the continuing engineering works at London Bridge means that customers should expect long waiting times before they can board a train home.

Southern’s Station Group Manager, Paul Wyborn said: ‘‘The industrial action and the dispute with the RMT is continuing to cause misery to people’s lives. For our part, we’re sorry that we are unable to provide a full service that meets our passengers’ expectations. We’ll do the best we can with the resources we have available but the trains that do run will be exceptionally busy. That’s why we are regrettably advising people to try and find another way of getting in and out of Brighton to beat the crowds and unavoidable queues.”

Southern is advising Pride goers to beat the crowds and to think about alternative ways of getting to and from the event.

The queuing system at Brighton station will be in place from 06:00, and customers will be allowed on to the platforms on a first-come-first served basis as space allows.

Passengers that have no alternative but to travel by train should check before they travel at nationalrail.co.uk.
