Extra trains and carriages for runners and spectators for the Brighton Marathon

Southern is putting on a series of special trains to ensure that everyone can get to the start of Brighton’s 2016 marathon. At 9.15am on Sunday 17th April, runners will start from Preston Park and finish at Brighton’s Madeira Drive.

In anticipation of thousands of runners and spectators travelling to the event by train, Southern will be putting on additional trains from London and on the West Coastway, with additional carriages on some services from Victoria to Brighton. However, for the safety and comfort of our passengers, Preston Park station will be closed until 11am on the day.

The additional trains will be:

Brighton Main Line

  • 06:20 Victoria to Brighton calling at Clapham Junction (06.32), East Croydon (06.46), Redhill (06.58), Gatwick Airport (07.06), Three Bridges (07.11), Haywards Heath (07.20) arriving at Brighton at 07.35
  • 07:02 Victoria to Brighton calling at Clapham Junction (07.14), East Croydon (07.28), Redhill (07.44), Gatwick Airport (07.53), Three Bridges (07.57), Haywards Heath (08.07) arriving at Brighton at 08.21

West Coastway

  • (Bus) 04.45 Chichester to Littlehampton calling at Barnham (05.05), Ford (05.20) arriving at Littlehampton at 05.30 then the train:
  • 05.40 Littlehampton to Brighton calling at West Worthing (05.52), Worthing (05.55), Shoreham-by-Sea (06.01), Hove (06.08) arriving at Brighton at 06.12
  • 07.20 West Worthing to Brighton calling at Worthing (07.23), East Worthing (07.25), Lancing (07.28), Shoreham-by-Sea (07.32), Southwick (07.35), Fishersgate (07.37),Portslade (07.39), Aldrington (07.42), Hove (07.45) arriving at Brighton at 07.49
  • 08:13 West Worthing to Brighton calling at Worthing (08.16), East Worthing (08.18), Lancing (08.21), Shoreham-by-Sea (08.25), Southwick (08.28), Fishersgate (08.30),Portslade (08.32), Aldrington (08.35), Hove (08.38) arriving at Brighton at 08.42

Some Victoria to Brighton morning services leaving at 06 and 32 minutes past the hour will be lengthened to 10 or 12 carriages from the usual eight to make the journey to the start line more comfortable for competitors and spectators.

Engineering work by Network Rail means that the line between Victoria and Balham will be closed until approximately 06.00 on Sunday. As a result, early morning Southern services from Victoria will be diverted to run from London Bridge. Passenger s are advised to check before they travel by using National Rail Enquiries.
