Great Northern adds Remembrance Sunday train from King’s Lynn

Great Northern, operated by Govia Thameslink Railway, will run an extra early-morning train service at the request of members of the Royal British Legion and other residents in West Norfolk and Cambridgeshire who want to travel to Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday.

The service to London King’s Cross, which normally starts from Cambridge, will be extended to start from King’s Lynn at 7.24am, calling at Watlington, Downham Market, Littleport, Ely, Waterbeach, Cambridge North and Cambridge. It then runs non-stop to King’s Cross, arriving at 9.09am. The train will run as a normal passenger service.

Stuart Cheshire, Passenger Service Director for Great Northern and Thameslink, said: “We are honoured to be able to help people to mark this special day by attending the country’s premier Remembrance event 100 years after the end of the First World War.”

Kate Green, the British Legion’s Area Manager East Anglia, said: “This Poppy Appeal, as we mark 100 years since the end of the First World War, The Royal British Legion is asking the nation to say ‘Thank You’ to the entire First World War generation who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

“With this in mind, we are extremely grateful to Great Northern for showing their support towards our Armed Forces and members of the Royal British Legion in this centenary year as people travel to London to pay their respects and give thanks to those from the First World War generation and beyond.”
