Network Rail apologies for derailed engineering train

Network Rail has apologised after a derailed engineering train caused the line from Purley to Caterham to be closed on the morning of Friday 8 July.

The incident happened at 2.30am and involved a short train called a tamper, travelling at low speed.

A Network Rail spokesman said:

“We’re really sorry for the delays and disruption passengers have endured this morning.

“Our teams were able to get the train back on the rails soon after 8am and we aim to have the railway open later this morning.

“We are investigating how the incident happened.”
