Network Rail overnight work means changes to Arun Valley weekday late evening services

Network Rail is about to start a programme of work on a 10 mile stretch of the Arun Valley Line to remove, clean and replace ballast. The work will take place overnight until August, (with a two-week break in June) but in order for the programme to be completed within the 18-week period, changes to late evening Southern services on the line will be necessary.

From Monday 4th April on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, until Thursday 2nd June, and from Monday 20th June until Thursday 18th August, the following changes to services will take place:

  • The 21.32 Victoria to Portsmouth and Southsea service will be diverted after Three Bridges, calling at Haywards Heath, Ford, then as timetabled.
  • The 21.40 Portsmouth Harbour to Three Bridges service will be diverted after Ford calling at Haywards Heath and Three Bridges
  • The 22.32 Victoria to Chichester service will terminate at Horsham
  • The 22.40 Chichester to Three Bridges service will not run


An additional train service will run as follows:

  • 00.09 Horsham to Three Bridges calling at Littlehaven, Ifield, Crawley and Three Bridges


Replacement bus services will run as follows:

  • 22.59 and 23.39 Horsham to Chichester calling at Christ’s Hospital, Billingshurst, Pulborough, Amberley, Arundel, Ford, Barnham and Chichester
  • 23.00 and 23.40 Horsham to Bognor Regis calling at Christ’s Hospital, Billingshurst, Pulborough, Amberley, Arundel, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis
  • 01.02 Chichester to Portsmouth & Southsea calling at Fishbourne (A259), Bosham, Nutbourne (A259), Southbourne (A259), Emsworth, Warblington, Havant, Fratton (Goldsmith Avenue) and Portsmouth & Southsea
  • 22.26 Barnham to Horsham calling at Arundel, Amberley, Pulborough, Billingshurst, Christ’s Hospital and Horsham
  • 22.57 Barnham to Three Bridges calling at Arundel, Amberley, Pulborough, Billingshurst, Christ’s Hospital, Horsham, Littlehaven, Ifield, Crawley and Three Bridges
