Southern Great Northern Thameslink and Gatwick Express say log on for free

Passengers with Southern, Great Northern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express can surf the web, tweet and browse Facebook to their hearts’ content at 105 stations, which have all been fitted with free unlimited Wi-Fi.

Charles Horton, CEO of Govia Thameslink Railway which runs the four routes, said:

“There’s no advertising and no catch – just free unlimited Wi-Fi for whoever logs on at 105 of our stations. Passengers can use our On Track app to see the progress of their trains, plan journeys and even book a ticket. They’ll be able to Facebook their friends, tweet and check emails – everything that’s possible in the connected world.”

The service is provided by O2. There is no advertising and passengers have the option to opt out of marketing messages when they sign up.

Editor’s notes

Govia Thameslink Railway manages 236 stations. The 105 were selected according to the number of people using the station each day. Others, such as Victoria, London Bridge and King’s Cross, are not managed by GTR and would require investment by a third party.
