A community gardening partnership flourished at nearby Thameslink station Elstree and Borehamwood

Press release -

The next arrival at Kentish Town station will be a blossoming community makeover

Rail company Thameslink has signed a partnership agreement with community volunteers in Kentish Town to transform the station with flowers and herbs.

They will launch themselves with a community 'Plant Day' on Saturday 22 April, when they hope locals will join them in a major spruce up, as well as donating plants.

The work, partly funded by Thameslink, mirrors work done by other groups across the Thameslink and Great Northern network to improve the look and feel of stations and better reflect the community it serves.

As well as creating station gardens, other groups have put up community noticeboards or installed history exhibits and artwork by local schoolchildren.

The Kentish Town group met with the station team to agree the work and their vision for the future.

Joan Fairbrass, Thameslink Station Manager, said: "It is really lovely to see a local community group wanting to get involved in the station and work with us to enhance the overall appearance. I am really looking forward to working with them going forward."

James Gillett, Thameslink Area Manager, added: "Kentish Town is a station which really does need a green touch and I'm looking forward to seeing what the results of the work. My thanks to them for getting involved and the Council for their support."

Ian Grant secretary of the Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum and Transition Kentish Town Core Group said: “Greening up Kentish Town Station was one of the projects in the KTNF Plan, which was voted in by residents last year. It is the first practical project that the KTNF and Transition Kentish Town have worked together on, and both organisations look forward to working with Thameslink.”
