Weather beaten: Green Flag predicts 25% decrease in call-outs as Brits stay indoors this Bank Holiday

Green Flag breakdown predicts significantly lower call-outs this May Day weekend compared to last year’s bank holiday.  With the likelihood of bad weather and the continued pressure on household budgets as a result of rising fuel prices, we may see a bank holiday without the traditional levels of congestion and traffic jams.

Green Flag anticipates on Saturday that 27% less drivers will require breakdown assistance.  However, it is not just the weekend itself that will see such a dramatic downfall in call-outs, Green Flag also predicts fewer breakdown incidents on Tuesday when the working week begins again with claims set to be down 28%.

Miranda Schunke, spokesperson for Green Flag, said: “This April has widely been regarded as one of the wettest in recent memory and the inclement weather is predicted to continue through the May Day bank holiday.  Combined with expensive petrol prices, we have analysed our own data and found that the forecast for the number of breakdowns is remarkably lower than this time last year as people opt to stay at home.  We would like to remind people that despite the lower call-outs expected, the adverse weather conditions may be hazardous and we urge people to drive carefully should they get behind the wheel this weekend.”
