The train has been produced for the UK Department for Transport’s Intercity Express Programme (IEP), and following its recent completion is now being shipped from Kasado Works in Kudamatsu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Hitachi, Ltd. announced that it has secured a S$30million (2.7billion yen) contract with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) through Hitachi Asia Ltd. to enhance the capability of the Sentosa Express light rail system, with a new Wireless Signaling System (CBTC*1) and another train set (comprising two carriages). The enhancement will enable the Sentosa Express to cater to more passengers.

Hitachi Rail Europe celebrated the completion of the building envelope of its Rail Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in Newton Aycliffe. During the event, Keith Jordan announced that Hitachi had also established its UK Design Office in the new facility. The Design Office will initially comprise of 12 staff, with four Design Engineers already on board and more roles advertised on the Hitachi website.
