Hitachi Rail supports DB InfraGO with new dispatching system
In close collaboration with DB InfraGO, the infrastructure operator and dispatcher for Berlin’s S-Bahn network, Hitachi Rail has implemented a modern dispatching system for the Berlin operations control center. The solution, named DiStEL and based on the powerful ARAMIS® platform, replaces an outdated predecessor and lays the foundation for a stable, future-proofed, and digitally connected rail operation in the German capital.
The new system enhances dispatching capabilities and enables faster responses to disruptions — a direct benefit for passengers, who receive more reliable and transparent information. At the same time, DiStEL supports the integration of various passenger information systems as well as future expansions such as planned routing services and the Digital European Driver Order, thereby creating the technical foundation for future digital interfaces and European rail standards.
“With DiStEL, we are taking another important step toward a modern, connected, and customer-focused rail operation,” says Matthias Engelmann, Head of the Operations Control Center at DB InfraGO. “The system’s high flexibility helps us keep operations stable, even in complex scenarios.”
"The most important success factor was the close coordination and collaboration between all project partners. This kind of cooperation is essential for tackling the challenges of the coming years," adds Florian Fellbaum, Head of Sales & Business Development Berlin at Hitachi Rail in Germany.
The successful rollout in Berlin demonstrates how digital dispatching systems can sustainably improve urban rail operations. The solution provides a robust foundation for similar modernization efforts in other metropolitan regions — all with the aim of making public transport more efficient, reliable, and future-ready.
