Hövding inspired by vibrant colours and shimmering rainbows

With summer ablaze with colour, Hövding is taking inspiration from the plant world, serving up tropical influences and rainbow reflecting covers that add personal style to your cycling trip while increasing your visibility on the roads.

The two new covers being launched by Hövding are Brazil and Spectrum.

The colourful Brazil cover draws on the influences of tropical flora – embracing this year’s trend for the more exotic members of the animal and plant kingdom.

The Brazil is woven in jacquard fabric for a glossy, luxury feel, with a varied structure bringing the bold colours and pattern to life. The pattern is individually applied to each cover, giving every cyclist a unique look with the Brazil around their neck.

The Spectrum is a more classic cover at first sight, but it is actually made using a shimmering and highly reflective fabric. When the light hits it, all the colours of the rainbow are reflected in a glittering show. The label in the Spectrum is made from an exciting new material called Viridis, the first green, bio-based rubber produced from maize.

“Europe is seeing a real boom in cycling and we hope that many cyclists will choose safety first. Although Hövding is, above all, a safety product offering the world’s best head protection for cyclists according to multiple independent tests, we also want cyclists to be able to express their own personal style when they’re out on their bikes,” says Hövding’s CEO Fredrik Carling.

The covers work with the Hövding 3 and don’t need to be removed for charging.

The covers will be in stores from end of August.

Recommended retail price:

Brazil 39 EUR and Spectrum 39 EUR

About Hövding

A Swedish innovation, Hövding is the world’s first airbag for cyclists, and is proven to offer better protection than traditional cycle helmets. Via advanced sensors and a unique algorithm, the Hövding monitors the movement patterns of the cyclist and reacts by releasing an airbag in 0.1 seconds in the event of an accident, offering the world’s best impact absorption and protection against rotational forces. Since its launch, over 350,000 Hövding airbags have been sold and several thousand people have been protected by Hövding in accidents.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
