Be safe, warm and stylish with Hövding’s new winter cover

Many people continue to brave the elements as the cold and harsh weather of winter sets in, still cycling to work, school and other daily activities. Hövding’s new Vinter cover is designed to provide extra warmth and comfort during the cold months, and make sure you’re seen in the dark. The cover is lined with a soft and functional, thermoregulating fleece that feels gentle and warm against the sensitive skin of your neck.

“The main reason people wear a Hövding is because they are safety-conscious, but many also want to be able to express their own personal style. We had both of these elements in mind as we developed a cover focused on comfort and warmth. The Vinter cover is a stylish accessory for any cyclist, in a fabric that works with all sorts of outerwear, and above all it provides the soft, warm feel that you want on those chilly days,” explains Stina Malmros, Pattern Technician at Hövding, who works on developing the covers.

The internal design around the neck has a slightly higher collar that overlaps under the chin, preventing cold air from getting in. An added level of comfort is provided by fully covering the front and inside zips with the soft fabric. The overlapping section is fastened at the front with hook-and-loop tape and keeps the whole product in place even when not closed and activated. The Hövding Vinter is not just a cover, but also a scarf that offers great visibility in the dark.

The Vinter is a limited edition in a black, quilted fabric with black, reflective edging that runs all the way around the top of the cover.

“We’ve used 3M reflectors that deliver high quality in both light reflection and durability. On the outside, the quilted fabric makes a classic fashion statement that speaks to winter and warmth. The black Hövding Vinter works with all sorts of outerwear, looking just as fabulous with a wool coat or a sportier-style jacket,” says Stina Malmros.

Hövding is a discreet collar that the cyclist wears around their neck, where it checks the cyclist’s movements 200 times a second. The collar contains an airbag that instantly inflates in an accident to protect your head and neck. The deployment mechanism is controlled using sensors that detect the abnormal movement of the cyclist.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
