IAM RoadSmart issues advisory for snow and ice
Following a Met Office amber warning for snow and ice, IAM RoadSmart Director of Policy and Standards Nicholas Lyes said: "Since new year, temperatures have plunged and conditions will be tricky, particularly with many returning to work. Where heavy snow is forecast, drivers are advised to consider whether journeys are necessary.
"If you need to travel, preparation is key: Clear your car of snow, including the roof and ensure your windscreen is fully de-iced and de-misted. Take warm clothing, a fully charged phone, water and some snacks. A shovel may also be handy if you get trapped in snow. When driving, slow down and apply gentle braking and acceleration to avoid a spin or skid. Drivers should also maintain a much bigger gap between themselves and the vehicle in front."
