London Sport Consultancy to support Hillingdon Council with physical activity and sport strategy

London Sport Consultancy is excited to be re-commissioned by Hillingdon Council to support the development of a borough-wide physical activity and sport strategy.

The strategy – which replaces the existing strategy created back in 2012 – will create new partnerships across the council and raise the profile of sport and physical activity work across the borough.

In recent months, London Sport has worked with Hillingdon Council to develop successful partnerships with clubs and organisations in Hayes to support a diverse group of residents to be more active.

London Sport Consultancy also has a strong history working with the council having previously explored the key behavioural and socio-economic indicators of inactivity in the borough.

Back in 2019, London Sport Consultancy undertook a comprehensive review of two of the borough’s major cycling facilities in Lake Farm Country Park and Minet Country Park.

This project will help the council create opportunities for more residents to live healthier, more active lifestyles by identifying opportunities to provide alignment across key areas of council departments and for working towards joint objectives.

Jointly, London Sport Consultancy and Hillingdon Council will develop a strategy and action plan benefiting from cross-council buy-in and support to improve the physical activity needs and sporting needs of residents.

In time, the partnership will look to increase levels of activity in the borough where 58.1 per cent of residents complete the recommended levels of physical activity of 150 minutes a week.

London Sport’s Head of Insight, Dan Stracey, said:

“We’re delighted to be working with Hillingdon Council again and hope that our work will make a real impact in the council’s strategy development and implementation.

“A healthy lifestyle, of which physical activity is a major part, cannot just be the responsibility of one team within a council as it sits across health, leisure facilities, parks, housing and social care etc.

“That’s why we’re so excited to help Hillingdon Council to create this new physical activity strategy which we believe will have a real and positive impact on residents across the borough.”

Cllr Susan O’Brien, Hillingdon Council’s Cabinet Member for Families, Education and Wellbeing, said:

“We’re determined to ensure that everyone across Hillingdon is able to enjoy the physical, mental and social benefits of a more active lifestyle.

“Working closely with London Sport we’ll ensure this strategy sets out how we can best plan and deliver services to maximise inclusivity and enable all residents become more active in the way that best suits them.”
