Press release -

Mondelēz employees cycle distances up to 100 miles to support Alzheimer’s Research UK

A team of 44 Mondelēz International employees from four UK sites, including Birmingham, came together to cycle extensive distances in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The colleagues cycled a distance of 50km, 100km or 100 miles. The cycling route started and ended in Bournville – the iconic home of Cadbury – and those who took on the 100-mile route made it as far as Banbury before returning home.

With a combined total of 5,311 km cycled, the local employees from Mondelēz International spent 288 hours on the saddle and raised over £4,100 for the UK’s leading dementia research charity for completing the challenge.

Every year, colleagues at the Bournville site take on an annual cycling challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for causes and charities close to their hearts, such as St Basil’s and the British Paralympic Association.

This year marks the 9th annual challenge that the colleagues have completed, with more than £74,000 raised to date. Their fundraising efforts are also matched by The Cadbury Foundation’s ‘cashmatch’ scheme, and this year marks the 90th anniversary of the Foundation, adding a special milestone to the event.

Steven Say has been working at Mondelēz International’s Bournville site for 10 years and has completed nine cycling challenges in support of various charities and causes.

Steven comments: “Although this is our ninth cycling charity challenge, each year more colleagues commit to hitting the road and taking on further distances to make a real difference, making it tougher and once complete, more rewarding every year.

“Nearly one million people in the UK are living with dementia, and Alzheimer’s Research UK is dedicated to finding a cure to change the future of those affected. We’re delighted to be supporting our charity partner, Alzheimer’s Research UK, and we’re proud that our efforts have raised significant funds, which will help accelerate progress towards a cure for dementia.”

Emily Handley, Partnership Development Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, added: “We are so grateful to everyone at Mondelēz International for taking on this incredible challenge – the cyclists, and all who donated.

“The team should feel immensely proud of the distances they have covered and for raising £4,100 to help Alzheimer's Research UK get closer to a cure for dementia. On behalf of everyone here at the charity, a massive thank you to all involved.”
