Mondelēz employees cycle over 1400 miles in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK

16 employees from Bournville took part in a charity cycling event, raising more than £1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

The amateur cyclists completed routes of 100km or 100 miles, travelling through Birmingham and into Shropshire and Warwickshire, with all routes beginning and ending in Bournville, the historic home of Cadbury.

In one day, the 16 colleagues covered a combined distance of 2257 km across 137 hours of cycling, helping to raise £1,515 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. Their fundraising efforts have also been matched by The Cadbury Foundation’s ‘cash match’ scheme, bringing the total donated to £3,030.

The annual cycling challenge offers colleagues from Mondelēz International’s seven sites the opportunity to raise vital funds for charities and causes close to their hearts, with £86,064 raised to date.

2026 marks the third year that Mondelēz International has supported Alzheimer’s Research UK as one of their national charity partners. Right now, almost one million people are living with dementia in the UK. Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity. The charity's mission is to accelerate progress towards a cure for dementia by revolutionising the way it is treated, diagnosed and prevented.

Demand Planning Manager, Steven Say, has been working at Mondelēz International’s Bournville site for 12 years and has completed ten charity cycling challenges to date.

Steven comments: “Each year, my colleagues and I look forward to taking on the annual cycling challenge, raising money for important causes and charities. This year, we’re proud to have completed the equivalent distance of Bournville to Bucharest. Together, these challenges have helped raise more than £31,830 for charities, including Alzheimer’s UK, since 2015.”

“It’s fantastic to see colleagues, friends and supporters come together behind such an important cause. Alzheimer’s Research UK does vital work raising awareness of dementia and helping to change the future of those facing it, and we’re proud to have played a small role in supporting the charity and the wider community affected by dementia.”

Emily Handley, Senior Partnership Development Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, added: “We are incredibly grateful to the Mondelēz International employees who took part in this challenge to raise money for our charity.”

“The team should be extremely proud of what they have achieved, including raising an impressive £3,030 to help us fund vital dementia research in our mission to find a cure for dementia.”

"Thank you to everyone who took part and donated, and to Mondelez International for continuing to stand with us.”
