Uxbridge employees award National Deaf Children’s Society with substantial grant

Uxbridge-based employees at Mondelēz International have selected one of the leading children’s charities, the National Deaf Children Society (NDCS), to receive a grant of £5,000.

Following nomination by an Uxbridge employee at Mondelēz International as part of its annual Your Charity Your Choice scheme, the charity has received a donation of £5,000.

Each year, Mondelēz International employees from across the UK are invited to nominate wellbeing-related charities or projects close to their hearts to receive a grant, with the final shortlisted charities voted for by the wider workforce.

The National Deaf Children’s Society is a national charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for every deaf child, through raising awareness, campaigning for rights, and giving expert support on childhood deafness across the UK. The leading charity supports children with differing levels of hearing loss, from mild to profound, no matter how they communicate.

Championing not just the child, the charity empowers families to make informed choices, through specialist support and education, as well as bringing families together so they feel part of a supportive community. The donation will help the charity extend their vital services, such as the Family Sign Language courses, to more deaf children and their families.

Maria Simas, Junior Brand Manager at the Mondelez International Uxbridge site, who nominated the charity said: “The National Deaf Children’s Society is a vital charity, providing essential services to deaf children and their families. I’m delighted that thanks to my nomination, the charity will receive a substantial grant, enabling them to continue their work”.

Victoria Prince-White, corporate partnerships manager at the National Deaf Children’s Society, added: “This generous grant from The Cadbury Foundation will help us continue to deliver our vital work supporting families with deaf children, through services such as our Family Sign Language courses, which enable parents to communicate more effectively with their children. Thank you to Mondelēz International’s Uxbridge staff, as without them, this donation would not have been possible.”

The Cadbury Foundation was set up in 1935 in recognition of Richard and George Cadbury and their investment in the welfare of their employees and the local community, and to continue their work. Across all Mondelēz International UK sites, £77,000 has been pledged for this year’s ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ initiative.

Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, said: “Supporting wonderful charities and projects which make a real difference to the lives of so many each year, is exactly what The Cadbury Foundation is all about. So, we’re delighted to know that thanks to the Foundation’s help, the National Deaf Children’s Society will be able to continue its vital work supporting children and their families living with deafness.”

About Cadbury

For 200 years, since John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop in Birmingham in 1824, Cadbury has been the nation’s favourite chocolate bar. Recently voted The Grocer’s Britain’s Biggest Brand 2022*, Cadbury has a wide range of well-loved delicious chocolate that reminds the nation that there is a ‘Glass and a Half’ of generosity in everyone. The brand’s success is built upon its deep understanding of customers, shoppers and the category, ensuring it continues to evolve to remain relevant.

The health and wellbeing of its customers is hugely important and so Cadbury helps run Be Treatwise, to remind people that treats are special, to be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced lifestyle. Portion control and consumer education, through on pack labelling, have a huge part to play in Cadbury’s strategy to ‘inspire mindful snacking’.

The brand recently announced a programme to bring all Cadbury standard chocolate products predominantly purchased for consumption by children, under 100 calories. 100% of the cocoa in Cadbury’s chocolate is sustainably sourced through the company’s Cocoa Life programme, which supports sustainable cocoa farming. This helps secure a positive future for farmers, their families and their communities. For more information visit www.cadbury.co.uk
