Press release -

Pre-hospital medical team receives £5,000 from The Cadbury Foundation

Pre-hospital medical team, Mercia Accident Rescue Service (MARS), has been chosen by regional employees at Mondelēz International to receive a donation of £5,000.

The local charity which provides emergency medical care to seriously injured and critically unwell patients, has been granted the substantial donation from The Cadbury Foundation, as part of its ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ scheme.

Each year, all Mondelēz International UK employees are invited to nominate wellbeing-related charities or projects close to their hearts to receive a large donation, with the final shortlisted charities up for vote amongst fellow colleagues.

MARS was one of 11 charities from across the UK to receive the generous grant. The local charity is currently run by 16 volunteer doctors, nurses and paramedics who provide advanced pre-hospital medical care to seriously injured and critically unwell patients, in a range of roadside situations from car crashes, industrial accidents and cardiac arrests.

Based across Herefordshire, Worcestershire and the Midlands, MARS has been providing vital care to the region for almost 40 years. The Midlands-based charity works alongside West Midlands Ambulance Service and provides medical expertise and life-saving interventions to patients, as well as additional skills, equipment, drugs, and surgical procedures.

The significant sum will enable the charity to invest in brand-new kit bags and equipment and respond to multiple casualties offering vital support to those in need across the region.

Matthew Hughes, who works as an electrician at the Marlbrook Mondelēz International site, nominated the charity to receive the grant. Matthew commented: “The MARS team work tirelessly to attend a range of major incidents across the region, and as volunteers, they give up their free time to provide life-saving and critical care. I’m delighted that my fellow colleagues chose them to receive this donation, so they can continue to support individuals in need during emergency and critical situations.”

Dr Rob Moss, Clinical Lead at MARS, added: “As a charitable team of volunteers, we rely solely on donations. This generous grant from The Cadbury Foundation will significantly support us with our vital work and will allowe us to invest in new kit bags and equipment, which will ultimately enable us to respond to multiple casualties across the region.”

Established in 1935, The Cadbury Foundation was set up in recognition of Richard and George Cadbury and their investment in the welfare of their employees and the local community, and to continue their work. Across all Mondelēz International UK sites, £77,000 has been pledged for this year’s ‘Your Charity Your Choice’ initiative.

Kelly Farrell, community affairs manager at Mondelēz International, added: “Supporting fantastic charities and projects that make a real difference to the lives of so many, is exactly what The Cadbury Foundation is all about. We’re proud to know that thanks to the Foundation’s help, MARS will be able to continue providing emergency help and assistance to incidents on roads across the Midlands and supporting those in need.”

About Cadbury

For 200 years, since John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop in Birmingham in 1824, Cadbury has been the nation’s favourite chocolate bar. Recently voted The Grocer’s Britain’s Biggest Brand 2022*, Cadbury has a wide range of well-loved delicious chocolate that reminds the nation that there is a ‘Glass and a Half’ of generosity in everyone. The brand’s success is built upon its deep understanding of customers, shoppers and the category, ensuring it continues to evolve to remain relevant.

The health and wellbeing of its customers is hugely important and so Cadbury helps run Be Treatwise, to remind people that treats are special, to be enjoyed in moderation as part of a balanced lifestyle. Portion control and consumer education, through on pack labelling, have a huge part to play in Cadbury’s strategy to ‘inspire mindful snacking’.

The brand recently announced a programme to bring all Cadbury standard chocolate products predominantly purchased for consumption by children, under 100 calories. 100% of the cocoa in Cadbury’s chocolate is sustainably sourced through the company’s Cocoa Life programme, which supports sustainable cocoa farming. This helps secure a positive future for farmers, their families and their communities. For more information visit www.cadbury.co.uk
