Condolences to family of Sir David Amess MP

The flag is flying at half-mast over Bury Town Hall in memory of Sir David Amess MP who was killed this afternoon at his constituency surgery.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader of Bury Council, said: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the murder of Sir David, who was Member of Parliament for Southend West. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time.

“I will be writing in an official capacity to his family to express the borough’s deepest sympathies and the council flag has been lowered as a mark of respect. A book of condolence will be opened at the town hall.”
