Lace up for a new Run For All event in Bury

Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All are excited to announce their brand new and improved event for 2020.

Joining the much loved Bury 10K and Bury Fun Run this year will be an exciting new event, the Bury 10 Mile – all taking place on Sunday 20 September. (See below for how to take part)

Since the event launched in 2016 it has continued to grow in popularity attracting people of all abilities from first time runners to seasoned club runners travelling from around the area and beyond to take part.

In partnership with Bury Council and I Will If You Will (IWIYW), the event is expanding this year to ensure there is something for everyone in 2020.

The new format event will be an important date in the Bury calendar, complementing the many family-friendly activities planned for 2020 as Bury celebrates being chosen as the first Greater Manchester Town of Culture.

New routes for both the 10K and 10 Mile are being confirmed at present to ensure the route incorporates the town’s landmarks and will be announced very soon.

Councillor Andrea Simpson, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “We’re delighted to be able to be extending our annual running event to increase its appeal and create a great day for everyone. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere and it’s great to see our communities coming together to support each other.”

Tristan Batley-Kyle, Head of Events at Run For All, said: “We can’t wait to return to the streets of Bury and make 2020 our biggest year yet. It’s been amazing to see the thousands that have already taken part in our events and fundraise for amazing causes and hope that those and many more will be up for a brand new challenge.”

Charities are also expected to receive a huge boost from this year’s event as runners can choose to raise money for a charity of their choice or raise money for one of the events partner charities – Jane Tomlinson Appeal, The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, Bury Hospice and WHAG.

The Arena Group Fun Run will this year be open to children as young as 2 with free entries being available for 2-14 year olds. Children aged 2-8 must be accompanied by an adult.

The launch of the new events in Bury comes as part of Run For All day on Thursday 30 January. The organisers have launched events for next year, including two brand new running festivals, a brand new route for the legacy run – the Leeds 10K, opening entries to the Yorkshire 10 Mile and the return of the Leicester 10K.

Bury 10K, Bury 10 mile and Arena Group Bury Fun Run

Officially launching in 2016, the Bury 10K has gone from strength to strength over the years, with over 1,500 people taking part in 2019. In partnership with Bury Council and I Will If You Will, its annual event raised hundreds of thousands for good causes.

Run For All

Run For All is part of Jane Tomlinson’s lasting legacy. Jane Tomlinson CBE raised £1.85m for children’s and cancer charities before her untimely death from cancer aged just 43 in 2007. She made headlines across the world by competing in a series of epic endurance challenges from the London Marathon, ironman and triathlon competitions, to a 4,200 mile cycle ride across the width of the USA – despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Her family continue to raise funds in her name, and through the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and Run For All, a massive £10m has now been raised for charities.
