​Mayor’s charities off to a flying start

Bury’s new mayor has started as she means to go on – raising money for worthwhile local causes.

Councillor Jane Black and her consort Mr Mark Sankey have adopted two organisations to benefit in particular from this year’s Mayoral Charity Appeal - Grace's Place children’s hospice and the Manchester Jewish Federation.

Cllr Black’s mission has got off to a flying start with a £500 donation from Greater Manchester Deputy Lieutenants Barry Dixon and Peter Banks.

The mayor said: “We were so pleased to receive this generous donation; it’s a great start to our fundraising for the year ahead. Our new Fundraising Committee will be working hard to build on this.”

Grace’s Place will offer care and support to many children in the Bury and surrounding areas who have life-shortening conditions. The Fed, meanwhile, is the leading social care charity for the Greater Manchester Jewish community, looking after hundreds of people of all ages.
