London Sport's Insight Consultancy commissioned by UK Deaf Sport to assess new activity programme

London Sport Consultancy has been commissioned by UK Deaf Sport to support with the assessment of a new programme aiming to develop new and lasting sport and physical activity opportunities.

The ‘All Together – Deaf Londoners Activation Programme’ will develop physical activity opportunities for deaf people to take part in.

UK Deaf Sport aims to create a deaf peer-to-peer network across several boroughs with trained activators to support deaf Londoners to integrate with their communities through sport.

London Sport’s insight consultancy will help to deliver a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework for the programme to capture and measure each of the project outcomes.

The commission extends London Sport’s close ongoing relationship with UK Deaf Sport.

The partnership has already led to the creation of a London Deaf Sport Network and deeper links between the sector and professionals working directly with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The two organisations also collaborated on research to help improve the offer from the capital’s leisure operators to people with sensory impairments.

The insight developed throughout that process in 2019 supported a successful application to Comic Relief who are funding the All Together – Deaf Londoners Activation Programme.

London Sport’s Insight Consultancy Manager, Tristan Farron-Mahon, said:

“It’s a great privilege to be working with UK Deaf Sport once again. We know from previous experience the amount of incredible work they do on a regular basis across the capital.

“The recent Sport England data demonstrated, once again, that there is a big inequality between the number of deaf and disabled people who are active compared to those without a disability.

“In the 12 months to November 2019, the number of deaf and disabled people completing 150 minutes of exercise a week rose by 2.5% however and we hope this work will continue that trend.”

Tyron Woolfe, Programme Manager at UK Deaf Sport, said:

“UK Deaf Sport are delighted to be working with London Sport once again – their previous work proved instrumental in our efforts to gain funding for this programme from Comic Relief.

“The All Together – Deaf Londoners Activation Programme is going to be an extremely important piece of work in our efforts to get more deaf or hard of hearing Londoners active.

“We look forward to working closely alongside London Sport’s insight consultancy on the monitoring and evaluation of the programme to learn from what we will do.”
