Press release -

Pontus Frithiof’s new restaurants at SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället - Mondo and Pontus! i Sälen

This December, restaurateur and entrepreneur Pontus Frithiof and Thomas Dahlstedt with restaurant group Nordrest, will grace the alpine world with two new restaurants and an impressive bar at SkiStar's new state-of-the-art resort in Sälen - SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället. The restaurants have different orientations and offerings, but common to them both is the Pontus hallmark of a relaxed, cosy and inclusive atmosphere. SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället and the restaurateur's restaurants, Pontus! i Sälen and Mondo by Pontus Frithiof open on December 9, 2021.

Mondo and Pontus! i Sälen are the names of Pontus Frithiof’s and Nordrest’s two restaurants at SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället. SkiStar’s new lodge is centrally located in Hundfjällstorget with a ski-in-ski out spot that is second-to-none. Each restaurant has its own concept, which means that there is something for everyone, but both will reflect the well-known Pontus standard of excellent food and fast and professional service.

At Pontus! i Sälen, guests will be greeted by a warm, cosy international lodge atmosphere, where the calm Swedish alpine scenery meets the dramatic North America mountainscape - think Sälen with a Colorado vibe. The menu will offer a wide range of dishes, where the grill and sashimi dominate along with an equally extensive wine and champagne list, put together by Pontus Group's chief sommelier Mario E Moroni. The restaurant also boasts an inviting bar for a sophisticated après-ski served directly from the champagne cart.

Mondo, which means ‘world’ in Italian, will be an exciting "family-style concept", with dishes spanning different world cuisines and a sharing concept that caters for all occasions, the whole family or groups of friends. Mondo will provide a wonderful mountain hang-out that offers both new and well-known dishes, all of which are tasty and high quality. In Mondo's bar, guests will be able to enjoy a more traditional, fast-paced après ski, sounds from the DJ and a range of beers, shots and quality wines and drinks served by the glass.

“Our aim is to do something that no one else has done before in the mountains. We are creating two modern, exciting restaurant experiences for SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället's guests and the destination's visitors. Mondo and Pontus! i Sälen will underpin the lodge's international feel. The opening is fast approaching and table bookings for the winter season are now open. We look forward to meeting both regular and new Pontus guests on site,” says Pontus Frithiof, founder and owner of Pontus Group.

December 9 sees the opening of SkiStar's new lodge in Sälenfjällen: SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället - an international mountain resort with state-of-the-art accommodation and Pontus Frithiof's and Nordrest's two fantastic restaurants where a cosy atmosphere is the order of the day. SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället will accommodate 153 rooms, 786 beds, conference rooms, spa, gym, SkiStarShop and the restaurants Mondo and Pontus! i Sälen. Not to mention Scandinavia's most modern 8-seater express lift, downhill skiing and slopes for all levels as well as extended snow systems and proximity to Sälen-Trysil Airport, Scandinavian Mountains Airport.

"As the leading tour operator for Scandinavia of premium quality accommodation, taste experiences at the destination's restaurants are at least as important as the beautiful and challenging slopes that cater for the whole family. “SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället is our largest investment to date in premium accommodation in one of our destinations. Together with Pontus and Thomas team, we will offer guests and visitors something they have not previously experienced in the Swedish mountains,” says Stefan Sjöstrand, President and CEO of Skistar.

Since 2015, Pontus Frithiof, owner and founder of Pontus Group, and Thomas Dahlstedt, main owner of Nordrest, have worked closely together. The nature of their collaboration has varied over the years, with a franchise-like approach being the most recent format, where Nordrest is a contracting party and responsible for day-to-day operations, while Pontus adds its signature and DNA to the outfit by designing high-quality concepts and menus for guests.

The Pontus Group was founded in 1999 by Pontus Frithiof and today comprises 21 companies. The wholly owned operations under Pontus in the Air are located at Stockholm-Arlanda Terminal 5 and the new power dining restaurant La Tour in the DN building. Since the spring of 2015, the Pontus Group has run several restaurants together with restaurateur Thomas Dahlstedt and his group Nordrest and the popular Pocket by Pontus restaurants in Stockholm, Lidingö and Gothenburg as well as Pocket Café in DN-skrapan, Tidningshuset by Pontus, Pic Poc at AC Marriott Hotel Stockholm, La Girafe on Kungsholmen, and on December 9, 2021, Mondo and Pontus will open with a lodge bar at SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället http://pontusfrithiof.com
