At the Interalpin in Innsbruck the leading ski resorts, including Compagnie des Alpes (France), KitzSki (Austria), Kronplatz (Italy), LAAX (Switzerland), Levi Ski Resorts (Finland), NZSki (New Zealand), Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen (Germany), and SkiStar (Sweden, Norway) officially launched the Global Sustainability Ski Alliance – the first-ever initiative of its kind in the ski industry.
Preparations for the 2023/24 winter season are well underway at SkiStar’s destinations in Sweden and Norway. Several important steps have been taken to modernise and improve the ski experience for all ski enthusiasts, including new 6-seater lifts in Sälen and Hemsedal. All destinations will also receive improved snow production to ensure a long and snow-proof winter season.
Now, as we summarise two-thirds of the winter season and SkiStar’s second important quarter for the 2022/23 financial year, we see continued growth in the core business operation with a record turnover of SEK 2.5 billion (+8%) after the first six months of the year, despite the economic situation and challenging times. We can also report a very good second quarter.
The winter season is in full swing, while mountain travellers are starting to plan their summer holidays. SkiStar continues to invest in experiences for active summer holidays for the whole family in the Scandinavian mountain environment. New for this year is that the popular attractions of Stockholm Hammarbybacken will be introduced in Trysil and Sälen, and Vemdalen gets its first climbing park.
In recent years, SkiStar has transformed from a winter company focused on lift and piste, to a company that creates memorable mountain experiences all year round. An important investment decision has now been made to further develop the company's mountain facilities in Sweden and Norway. First up is a new six-chair lift in Hemsedal for next winter.
Interest in spending the Christmas holidays in the Scandinavian mountains at SkiStar’s destinations has been exceptionally high again this winter. The cold spell in December meant SkiStar was able to produce plenty of excellent snow, promising a long and snow-filled winter season. Several destinations, especially Trysil, Hemsedal and Sälen, have also received a fresh batch of natural snow lately.

Thanks to recent cold weather, which has provided good conditions for snow-making, all of SkiStar's destinations can now welcome all ski enthusiasts to the opening of the season. Vemdalen opened on 26 November, Sälen and Trysil will open on 2 December and Åre and Hemsedal will be ready to open on 8 December. Winter has come to stay, and with it comes with skiing.
British charter operator Ski Scandinavia is doubling the capacity of its winter charters to Scandinavian Mountains Airport from 11 February 2023. It is operating direct flights from Gatwick to Sälen/Trysil ("the heart of skiing”) on Saturdays. The venture builds on the positive experience gained last year, when the partnership was launched with a few trial flights.
The winter season will soon be here again and there are lots of new developments at all of SkiStar’s destinations for young and old alike. Besides improving snow production, we’re also continuing to work on everything from hire and sale of used ski clothing and skis to providing more activities like snow parks and ski cross courses and increasing digitisation for a more carefree experience.
Winter 2022/23 in Sälen offers many exciting new facilities, including a new button lift and new children's area in Lindvallen, new cross-country trails on the mountain, improved snow access and new, improved lighting.

The summer season will soon be here and SkiStar Sälen is getting ready for another season with lots of visitors and many new activities and events, including new SkiStar Sports & Adventures attractions. Innovative off-road electric vehicle manufacturer brings trailblazing snowmobiles to the Nordics. For SkiStar, it is an important next step in its sustainability transformation to have a net-zero climate impact from an operations standpoint by 2030.
Thanks to the easing of restrictions against Covid-19, SkiStar can finally remove several of precautions, although some will be retained. For example, travelling for all foreign guests visiting our Norwegian destinations will be considerably easier, with no requirement for border testing at entry.
Based on good experiences from previous summer and winter seasons, SkiStar continues to focus on safety and security for all guests. We continue to follow the advice and recommendations from the authorities and our trade associations and we are ready to adapt further as needed. As a guest you are responsible for keeping yourself up-to-date with what rules apply in your country and at your dest.

SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället will now welcome its first guests and visitors looking for an international alpine experience. A family resort close to the slopes that offers every conceivable amenity, opportunity and world-class dining experiences – all under the same roof and with skiing and experiences of nature right outside the door. The SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället opens on 12 December 2021.
This December, restaurateur and entrepreneur Pontus Frithiof and Thomas Dahlstedt with restaurant group Nordrest, will grace the alpine world with two new restaurants and an impressive bar at SkiStar's new state-of-the-art resort in Sälen - SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället.
