  • UK BUSINESSES FAILING IN THEIR DUTY TO PEOPLE WHO STAMMER

    STAMMA are launching ‘End Phone Call Nightmares’ campaign, on 22nd October, claiming that millions of calls made by people who stammer are mishandled every year. Businesses have a legal duty to anticipate and act on the needs of disabled customers so they can access services. Despite this, the report found that 65% calls reported in their survey were mishandled.

  • STAMMA Appoints a New Chair

    STAMMA has appointed Roger Pim as its new Chair, who will sit on the Board as Chair Elect until October when Acting Chair Paul Fix will formally hand over the reins. Roger first got involved in the charity in 2004, as a founding Board member of the Scottish Branch of the British Stammering Association (now STAMMA). The vacancy came about when Joanna Gaukroger stood down for health reasons.

  • PETITION CALLS FOR END TO BULLYING OF PEOPLE IN PARLIAMENT WITH DIFFERENCES

    A coalition of organisations and individuals has launched a parliamentary petition calling for Parliament to be inclusive of communication differences. The petition calls the current state of parliamentary debate a “febrile environment where people who communicate differently fear they’ll get ripped to shreds.”

  • BRAND RECOGNITION FOR STAMMA AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH

    An omnibus poll conducted by YouGov on 25th January 2024 showed that brand recognition for STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, stands at a record high of 19%. This has risen dramatically since 2018, when only 2% were able to identify them as a charity for people who stammer.

  • DECLARATION OF THE RIGHT TO STUTTER

    STAMMA have joined 61 other organisations around the world calling for the Right to Stutter on International Stammering Awareness Day. On a day normally flooded with stories about overcoming, STAMMA and other organisations are pushing instead for stammering to be accepted.
