Remember, remember the 5th of November...

Remember, remember the 5th of November... It’s time to wrap up warm, purchase a few sparklers and head outside to enjoy the traditional celebrations of Bonfire Night. No matter where you are, the skies are guaranteed to be lit up with magical colours as fireworks can be seen for miles and miles.

We all know the history behind Bonfire Night and the famous story of Guy Fawkes plotting to blow up the Houses of Parliament. However something you might not know is the association Stoke Park has with Guy Fawkes. Sir Edward Coke, a former owner of Stoke Park, was the prosecutor of Guy Fawkes. He told the court that Guy Fawkes and his fellow plotters were to be "put to death halfway between heaven and earth as unworthy of both".

In recognition of this famous event and the association Stoke Park has with Guy Fawkes, every year we host our own Bonfire Night. Held on the Sunday 6th November this year, we look forward to welcoming Members, guests and children along; to enjoy a BBQ and entertainment including a fabulous firework display. To prepare for the evening we’ve put together a list of essential items:

  • Sparklers...there will be plenty provided by us
  • Warm clothing...a big coat, thick soaks, a hat and scarf
  • Gloves...these are essential when playing with sparkers
  • Sausages...Chris Wheeler will have the BBQ going throughout the evening
  • Fireworks...it’s not bonfire night without them!

We hope you enjoy Bonfire night, but just remember to stay safe.
