#VolunteersWeek - Meet Nigel Dale

Nigel Dale is a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser for The Sick Children’s Trust with so much enthusiasm. Nigel has raised over £1,300 for the charity when he took on two half marathons and shaved off his beloved locks. We managed to have a quick chat with Nigel to find out a little more. He says:

“The original target was to raise at least £350, but slowly I kept increasing it as I really wanted to do my best to raise money and awareness of The Sick Children’s Trust. I knew though, if I wanted to reach over £1000 I would need to do something a little more than run a couple of half marathons. When I joked about shaving my long hair off I suddenly got floods of donations - that was the light bulb moment.”

Nigel has continued to go above and beyond by supporting the charity at every opportunity from volunteering at our special events, challenge events and within head office. He adds:

“Volunteering with The Sick Children’s Trust is always great fun and very rewarding. I know how much The Sick Children's Trust values the help of volunteers so I volunteer at lots of different activities, from packing envelopes for Big Chocolate Tea, selling cakes at Borough Market and at events such as All Out For Cricket in the City and the Christmas Carol service where I help to run a wine and mince pie station. I support at the #TeamSCT cheering stations at the London Marathon, Royal Parks Half Marathon and I take part in the Dragon Boat Race and Pancake race which raises money for the charity.

“I really enjoy working with The Sick Children’s Trust staff, and volunteers from other organisations. The events themselves are very entertaining, but being a musician, beating the Dragon Boat drums for #TeamSCT has been a highlight.”

Hannah Upson, Special Events Manager, says: “It is always great to have Nigel’s support at our events. He is someone we completely value and can rely upon, there is no task he won’t do and with it, he puts 100% effort in. Nigel has been a huge support to me and the rest of the team so we’d like to say a big thank you for all his dedication and commitment.”
