#VolunteersWeek - Jane, from RBS

Jane has been volunteering for us over the last year at our special events and at our Big Chocolate Tea event at Borough Market. Here is what she has to say about volunteering for The Sick Children’s Trust.

Why did you start volunteering?

It’s always been an objective of our organisation – RBS – to undertake at least one act of volunteering per year, which we do annually as a team event.

My colleague Adam invited me join him at The Sick Children’s Trust’s Christmas Carol service to volunteer. I had been aware of Adam’s involvement with The Sick Children’s Trust over the last few years and he always had such positive feedback about the events and the people he got to meet so I absolutely jumped at the chance!

Why do you think it’s important to volunteer?

Volunteering enables you to spread the word around your colleagues and actually put the charity ‘on the map’ so to speak.

After the Christmas Carol service I came into the office the next morning and couldn’t wait to tell our Regional Director about the atmosphere, the buzz, the generosity and the family speaker who shared their own story and said how the charity had made a difference to them. I re-lived the whole event for the Regional Director, as well as other staff in the office that day. The Sick Children’s Trust is now on everyone’s radar and our Regional Director actively got involved in the Golf Day event. This would never have come to the forefront had I not accepted Adam’s invitation to help out, and not discussed the event the following day. As they say, it’s good to talk.

What has been your favourite moment while volunteering?

I have volunteered at three events since December and the Christmas Carol service was ridiculously beautiful. It was extremely busy but so enjoyable. And Adam, Nigel and I had a blast. It was magical.

Thank you Jane for all your support. If you’d like to find out more about our volunteering opportunities, please email info@sickchildrenstrust.org.
