Rail passengers urged not to travel unless essential

Rail passengers are reminded not to travel unless their journey is essential tomorrow (Tuesday 19 July) due to the red weather warning for extreme heat.

The high temperatures on Monday meant that a reduced timetable was in place on London Northwestern Railway and emergency speed restrictions were in force across the network.

London Northwestern Railway Customer Experience Director Jonny Wiseman said:

“We are grateful to our customers who avoided travelling today.

“We expect further disruption to services on Tuesday so customers should again avoid travelling unless their journey is absolutely necessary. For those journeys that are essential, we would ask passengers to be aware that they will take longer than usual and services may be subject to short notice cancellations. If you have to travel, please plan ahead and check travel information beforehand, including for return journeys.”

Tickets for travel on Tuesday can be used on Wednesday (20th) or Thursday (21st) and if a journey has been disrupted by the weather customers may be entitled to a refund.
