Employees from Umicore Electroplating explored the historic roof truss of the Heilig-Kreuz-Münster (Cathedral of the Holy Cross).

Umicore Electroplating has once again organized a group activity for its employees. This time, they were offered a guided tour of the roof truss of the historic Holy Cross Cathedral in Schwaebisch Gmuend.

Under the expert guidance of Mr. Winfried Kienhöfer, 30 employees had the opportunity to view the cathedral from the inside and then explore the impressive roof truss. The high-quality carpentry with wooden beams, many of which are still original and over 700 years old, was particularly impressive. Another highlight was a large walking wheel, which was originally used to lift heavy loads during construction.

The tour began with a short tour of the inside of the cathedral. For the people taking part, it was then up a narrow spiral staircase with more than 100 steps. An exciting part of the tour was the walk outside, where participants were able to partially circle the cathedral on a balustrade. This gave them the opportunity to see the ornate gargoyles up close and enjoy the breathtaking view over the roofs of the old town.

After the approximately one-hour tour, the management invited the participants to enjoy a refreshing ice cream at the nearby market square. It was a successful conclusion to the event in a convivial atmosphere, during which the tour was reviewed once again. One participant commented with a smile: “The ice cream isn't nearly as cool as the tour was!”

The Umicore organization team was delighted with the positive feedback and is already working on the next group activity, which is traditionally planned for the second half of the year
