Japanese Industry Delegation Visits Umicore's Electroplating Site

20 leading decision-makers from the surface technology industry are learning about the latest developments in precious metal plating in Schwaebisch Gmuend.

Last week, Umicore’s Electroplating activities, which is part of Umicore’s business unit Metal Deposit Solutions, welcomed a 20-member delegation from Japan to its site in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The group, consisting of prominent executives and decision-makers from Japan’s electroplating and surface technology industry, visited the site as part of a multi-day trip to Germany aimed at fostering economic and technical exchange, as well as building and expanding international business relationships.

The visit to Umicore's Electroplating site was an event that the delegation had specifically requested be included in the program. As a leading international provider of precious metal coatings for decorative and technical applications, the company offered the guests insights into current developments and solutions in modern plating technology.

Following an introduction to the company, experts from Umicore delivered several technical presentations on current technologies and trends. The focus was on ways to save precious metals through the use of gold alloys and optimized layer systems. The experts also presented different types of anodes used in electroplating and explained how they contribute to efficient and reliable processes.

The presentations and subsequent discussions gave participants the opportunity to discuss technical challenges and market requirements from various perspectives. The open exchange highlighted the importance of international cooperation in developing sustainable solutions for electrolytic surface coating.

To conclude the visit, Umicore invited the delegation to the Rokokoschloesschen in Schwaebisch Gmuend. In this unique setting, the professional exchange continued in a personal atmosphere and existing contacts were further strengthened.

“The visit provided an opportunity for an interesting and valuable exchange. The discussions laid a solid foundation for further expanding our business in Japan,” explained Thilo Kuhn, Head of Sales and Marketing at Umicore Electroplating. “Our colleagues in Japan will now continue to maintain these contacts and work with our counterparts to discuss solutions to the challenges identified during our discussions.”

With this visit, Umicore Electroplating is highlighting the importance of international dialogue for innovation, technological advancement and long-term partnerships in the global surface technology industry.
