Umicore Electroplating provides a glimpse into the electrolysis plant at Lhyfe

A guided tour of Lhyfe in the Gügling district of Schwäbisch Gmünd, organized by Umicore Electroplating for its employees, was very well received. The 30 available spots were filled within a short time. During the tour, participants gained a firsthand look at an industrial-scale electrolyzer and thus at a technology that plays a key role in the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy.

The event began with a brief introduction by Alexander Groll, Head of the Office for Economic Development and Transformation of the City of Schwäbisch Gmünd. Following this, HR Manager Steffen Barth, representing the management, welcomed the Umicore employees and thanked the Lhyfe team for the opportunity to gain a firsthand look at the facility. Plant Manager Ivan Grujicicand his colleagues Mohamed Noun and Carlos Campelo led the tour of the facility, primarily in English. The fact that the tour lasted nearly an hour and a half instead of the planned hour underscored the participants’ keen interest and their in-depth technical engagement with the topic. Some Umicore employees already had prior technical knowledge, as their work involves solutions for increasing the efficiency and optimizing the costs of PEM electrolyzers.

The joint activity concluded successfully with a get-together at the Krone in Zimmern, to which the company invited its employees. In a pleasant atmosphere, this provided an opportunity for cross-departmental exchange on topics beyond purely technical matters.
