Umicore management and supervisory board visit Schwaebisch Gmuend site

Umicore Galvanotechnik GmbH welcomed Umicore Group's executive leadership team, led by CEO Bart Sap, and members of the supervisory board, including chairman Thomas Leysen, at the headquarters of the business unit Metal Deposition Solutions (MDS). The visit was part of a broader tour at Umicore’s sites in Germany and annual visits to gain further on-the-ground insights into Umicore’s activities.

Direct exchanges with Umicore employees during a tour of the two factory sections on Klarenbergstrasse, gave them guests a comprehensive insight into technological achievements, strategic initiatives and developments of ongoing projects. One focus area of the visit was the diverse application for the electrolyte solutions, which, in addition to decorative applications, are increasingly being used for technical applications such as electromobility, communication, and hydrogen technology.

The delegation was clearly impressed by the latest measurement technology for determining metal layers and the resulting possibilities in research and quality assessment.

The delegation was furthermore impressed by the site's increasing focus on optimizing existing standards with high-tech innovations in the semiconductor sector.

The visit shows that Schwaebisch Gmuend, as a relatively small site, is also of great importance to Umicore Group in an international context. “We had a very intensive exchange that demonstrated the appreciation for the innovative strength and commitment of our team in Schwaebisch Gmuend as a central component of our global activities in the field of electroplating with precious metals,” emphasized Michael Herkommer, Managing Director of Umicore Galvanotechnik and Head of the Business Unit.

About Umicore Metal Deposition Solutions

Umicore's Business Unit Metal Deposition Solutions (MDS) is part of Umicore Group. The business unit harbors two business lines Electroplating and Thin Film Products. MDS is one of the world's leading suppliers of products for (precious) metal-based coating of surfaces in the nano and micrometer range – with the expertise of the two areas, we combine the two highest-quality processes: electroplating and PVD coatings.

MDS's solutions are used in many products for everyday use, and in some cases their production would not be possible without them. Almost all well-known manufacturers in the electronics, automotive, optics and jewellery industries purchase components that have been coated with our Umicore products, either directly or indirectly.

In addition to development and production, Metal Deposition Solutions offers a comprehensive service for its products. This includes not only advice and technical support on site, but also recycling and precious metal management.
