Vasaloppet, the ski race between Sälen and Mora, is the world’s biggest long-distance ski race. In 2022, Vasaloppet will be 100 years old and celebrated with a Jubileumsvasa (Jubilee Vasaloppet), a race in tribute to the pioneers that put the first race together in 1922 with 139 participants. Also a new race, Vasaloppet 10, is intended to be a roughly 10 km long, 100th birthday party.
Lucia is celebrated in Sweden on the 13th of December with a 'Lucia procession'. Every year, a Lucia celebration is selected for broadcast on national television. This year, viewers will be heading to Tällberg, in the heart of Dalarna, which has been chosen for the broadcast of the Lucia procession.
A healthy polar bear cub is born in Dalarna. It is unusual that polar bears have cubs in zoos, and only fifty percent of the cubs survive the first critical weeks. 'The first couple of weeks were nerve-racking of course, since it was a big risk that the cub would not survive', says Johanna Berglund, caretaker in the park.
