Yamaha Motor Produces 10 Millionth Motorcycle in India

IWATA, May 17, 2019 - Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 7272) today announced that its Indian motorcycle manufacturing subsidiary India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd. (IYM) has reached a total accumulated production volume of 10 million units.

Motorcycle demand is growing every year against a background of rising incomes thanks to economic growth and the increasing role of women in society, with the current annual demand of approximately 22 million units (in 2018; Yamaha Motor survey) making India the world’s largest motorcycle market. Yamaha Motor began motorcycle production in India in 1985, and IYM now manufactures parts and assembles completed motorcycles in three locations, Surajpur, Faridabad, and Chennai.

Yamaha Motor has positioned India as a focal region in its New Medium-Term Management Plan and is working to secure stable income by expanding the scope of its unit sales through the launch of attractive products in the unique style of Yamaha.
