A collection of exquisite jewellery from one of the world’s most highly regarded jewellers has found its way to this year’s first Live Auction in Copenhagen on 27 February.
The six elegant and unique pieces of jewellery have been put up for auction by a European Noble House, and all but one come from the French jewellery house Van Cleef & Arpels, which for more than a century has been considered one of the most sought-after international jewellery brands.
“It is both the provenance and the fantastic craftsmanship that make this collection so unique. It is extremely rare to see vintage jewellery from Van Cleef & Arpels at auction in Denmark – and the pieces here are some of the finest and most exclusive within jewellery art,” says Katrin Mikkelsen Sørensen, Specialist in Jewellery at Bruun Rasmussen.
Van Cleef & Arpels have stores all over the world and is known for a great number of famous special orders from royalty and other prominent people – such as the breath-taking "Ocean" necklace worn by Princess Charlene of Monaco at her wedding in 2011, and Princess Fawzia of Egypt's stunning coronation tiara, which is decorated with 54 pear-shaped diamonds totalling 92 ct. as well as 530 baguette-cut diamonds totalling 72 ct. The former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Princess Grace of Monaco are among the quality-conscious celebrities that, over time, have worn jewellery created by Van Cleef & Arpels.
The jewellery is up for auction on 27 February and was created from 1960-70 – the same decade that Van Cleef & Arpels for the first time presented their iconic “Alhambra” series. The offered collection also includes an unusual sapphire and diamond brooch mounted in platinum and 18k white gold with approx. 25.40 ct. diamonds of the finest quality and approx. 31.90 ct. of rare, natural, and untreated sapphires. From the same collection comes a decorative sapphire and diamond bracelet with a lock in the shape of a lion’s head as well as a solitaire ring set with a brilliant-cut “light yellow” diamond weighing approx. 10.47 ct.

Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers is one of Scandinavia’s leading international auction houses, and one of Denmark’s oldest. It all started on 6 October 1948, when Arne Bruun Rasmussen conducted the first traditional auction in the saleroom at Bredgade 33 in Copenhagen. Today, Jesper Bruun Rasmussen stands at the helm of the family-run business together with the third generation of the family, his son Frederik and daughter Alexa, and the company’s CEO Jakob Dupont.
In 2004, the first online auction was launched, and today the auction house has expanded to include departments in Copenhagen and Aarhus and representations in Sweden, Germany, England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Spain, Italy, Thailand and the US. About 100,000 lots are put up for auction each year at the traditional auctions, the daily online auctions and - the latest edition - direct auctions. Here you can bid on everything from art, antiques, modern design and jewellery to books, coins, stamps, wine and weaponry.
