Great Coin Collections up for Auction in Copenhagen
Bruun Rasmussen’s international coin auction of the spring, will take place in Copenhagen on Tuesday 10 May with a total of 724 lots spread out over three catalogues, which contain two large private coin collections - including a unique, royal presentation set from 1854 estimated at DKK 100,000.
One of the two private coin collections up for auction was created by the Copenhagen coin dealer Arne Andreasen (1931-2014), who over a lifetime collected and traded his way to an unusually fine collection, both in terms of quality, rarity and breadth. 181 coins, medals and paper money have been selected from this exciting collection for one of the auction catalogues.
The second private collection comes from High Court Judge Ebbe Christensen. This is an impressive collection of Danish coins, which is the result of three generations work as collectors, and many of the coins have therefore not been offered at auction for generations. Among the many beautiful coins is a unique presentation set from 1854 especially, which deserves attention.
Frederik VII's Presentation Set
As something highly unusual in the Danish world of numismatics we can present a unique royal presentation set from Ebbe Christensen's collection at the auction. The set was given to Frederik VII in 1854, and in the beautiful, red box with gold print you will find seven different coins, including three pattern coins, all of them in an exquisite quality. The set has not been up for auction for 115 years and will probably not be back on the market for many years. Its estimated price is DKK 100,000.
Coins from Around the World
Several ancient gold coins have found their way to the third catalogue (the main catalogue), including a beautiful Aureus from the Roman Empress Faustina Junior. The international part of the catalogue also includes fine Russian coins from the 1700s and 1800s, and five beautiful Chinese silver dollars. From China we can also present no less than ten Ming notes from the Sophus Black Collection. Once again Bruun Rasmussen proves to be the place for the buying and selling of these interesting and ancient banknotes, which are among the world's very first of their kind.
