World renowned artists to perform at Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival
This year’s edition of the Gothenburg Dance and Theatre Festival features performing arts icons such as Laurie Anderson, Ohad Naharin/Batsheva Dance Company, Wim Vandekeybus and James Thierrée, along with emerging stars like Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Arkadi Zaides, Sarah Vanhee and Taoufiq Izeddiou. The festival takes place during ten days in August, and features a total of 18 guest performances from 11 countries.
The festival is presented in collaboration with GöteborgsOperan, Göteborgs Stadsteater, Backa Teater, Folkteatern, 3:e Våningen, Skogen, Atalante, Högskolan för Scen och Musik with Stora Teatern as the central hub and meeting place. As part of a new regional initiative, some performances will also be presented at various venues in Västra Götalandsregionen. These performances are presented in close collaboration with Vara Konserthus, Tjörns kommun and Vitlycke Centre for Performing Arts.
The 2016 Festival Conference sheds its light on performing arts and social responsibilities in relation to the single most pressing political and humanitarian issue of the past year: how do we treat people who are on the run looking for a new future in Europe?
