Another strong quarter for Hövding

130,000 of Hövding’s airbags for cyclists are now in circulation on our roads, with almost 20,000 sold in the last three months. More and more people choose to stay safe in traffic by wearing a Hövding, and this is evident in the company’s third quarter interim report.

During this year’s third quarter, Hövding’s net sales more than doubled. Sweden, Denmark and Germany are Hövding’s strongest markets. The preparations for strong 2019 sales in the UK, and London in particular, look promising. Hövding is recruiting a local team which will be responsible for marketing and sales.

- This sales development is fantastic. The sales numbers we previously reached in a month, we now sometimes achieve in a few days. More than 3,000 accidents have been registered where it has been proven that Hövding successfully protected or even saved the life of the cyclist. That feels great, says Hövding CEO Fredrik Carling.

Hövding is sold in 16 European markets, as well as in Japan. The unique airbag system offers cyclists superior protection against head injuries. According to tests conducted through the recognized Stanford University, Hövding offers up to eight times better protection than a traditional bike helmet. Furthermore, the bike helmet tests conducted by insurance company Folksam show top results for Hövding.

- Vi notice a strong demand of Hövding also during times other than the summer months when most of the bike riding takes place. September represents a third of the net sales in the quarter. The trend of commuting to work by bike is positive, and we’re delighted that so many choose Hövding for their head protection, says Fredrik Carling.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
