Dobbies helps to Make May Purple for Stroke Association

Dobbies in Southport turned purple recently to celebrate the Stroke Association’s annual stroke awareness month: Make May Purple and raised £272 in the process.

The Stroke Association has been calling on everyone to sign up to Make May Purple in 2016. During the month of May, the charity raised awareness of the impact of strokes, and shared information and advice on how to help prevent the condition across the country.

Dobbies Southport chose the Stroke Association as their Local Charity Partner because a number of employees had had personal experience with strokes. Employee Sue Payne’s mother in law Lillie had a stroke two years ago. Lillie is now in a nursing home in Southport and relies on carers and her family for support.

Sue and her colleagues at Dobbies organised a Make May Purple day in store on Thursday 26 May, when all staff donned purple clothes, sold purple cupcakes and organised a raffle to win a purple flower arrangement.

Laura McMullin, Regional Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “It’s been fantastic to see Dobbies turn purple to raise vital funds during Make May Purple. We’re extremely grateful to the team for all their support so that we can be there for more people affected by strokes.”

Zoe Stanmore, Community Champion at Dobbies Southport, said: “I’m delighted we raised so much money for Stroke Association with our recent fundraising day. The charity means a lot to many of us at Dobbies Southport, and we will continue to raise as much as we can for the duration of our partnership.”
