Press release —
ADS-TEC Energy to Build Large-Scale Battery Storage System for the Municipal Utility Stadtwerke Mühlacker
- Construction of large-scale battery storage system with 10 MW power output and 20 MWh capacity begins
- Facility at the Mühlacker substation is scheduled to begin operations by October 2026
- Battery storage system will help shave peak loads and shift energy consumption over time
Nürtingen/Mühlacker – August 3, 2026 – Today's ceremony marks the start of construction on a large-scale battery storage system with 10 MW of power output and 20 MWh of capacity at the Mühlacker substation. ADS-TEC Energy announced the project in January 2026, and today's ceremony represents the first visible step on site. The company is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the facility.
Voices on the Start of Construction
“With today's ceremony, we are beginning the implementation of a project that will make an important contribution to a future-proof energy supply," said Roland Jans, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Mühlacker. "For a project of this scale, it was important for us to have a partner who not only masters the technical implementation but also supports the project through every phase—from planning and construction to long-term operation. This experience gives us confidence that we can operate the storage system sustainably and economically."
Michael Rudloff, COO of ADS-TEC Energy, added: "A battery storage system is an investment made for many years. That's why, from the outset, we approach planning, implementation, and later operation as a single, integrated system. Our goal is not only to successfully deliver the project, but to work together with Stadtwerke Mühlacker to build a facility that performs reliably throughout its entire life cycle. This long-term perspective shapes our work on every project."
Next Milestone: Delivery Still Planned for Summer 2026
At the heart of the facility are four BESS5000 container systems. They will be delivered in the summer of 2026 and installed on the same day. Handover to the municipal utility is planned for October 2026.
About the Project: The large-scale battery storage system at the Mühlacker substation will help shave peak loads and shift energy consumption over time—contributing to grid stability amid rising electricity demand driven by e-mobility, heat pumps, and digital infrastructure. Development and system integration come entirely from ADS-TEC Energy, and thus entirely from Germany.
