Axkid expands Southern European presence with acquisition of Spanish and Portuguese distributor
Axkid, the Swedish leader in extended rear-facing car seats, today announced the acquisition of its long-standing distribution partner in Spain, Portugal and Andorra, Wobabies, through a strategic transfer of ownership. This move marks a significant milestone in Axkid’s international growth strategy, reinforcing the company’s commitment to child safety and mobility solutions in Southern Europe.
As part of the acquisition, the current management team of the distributor will remain in place to ensure operational continuity and support future growth across the region. Founder and owner Cristina Barroso has chosen to step down to pursue new professional opportunities outside the organization.
“After many successful years establishing our presence in Spain and Portugal, I’m proud to see my project come to fruition alongside Axkid. This transition will ensure continuity for our partners and customers, and will undoubtedly open up new opportunities for growth," says Cristina Barroso, founder of Wobabies.
A newly established local company, Artic Safe, will now serve as Axkid’s official representative in the Spanish, Portuguese and Andorran markets. In addition to offering Axkid’s full product portfolio, Arctic Safe will also distribute the Brands from Wobabies’ catalogue — Klippan and Kneeguard — establishing itself as a key player in the child safety segment.
“We’re excited to deepen our commitment to families in Spain, Portugal and Andorra," says Daniel Johansson, CEO of Axkid. “This acquisition gives us the opportunity to invest more directly in the market, offer better support to our partners, and ultimately help more children travel safely."
