Axkid Initiates Voluntary Recall of Minikid Core

Axkid is initiating a voluntary recall of Minikid Core after testing identified a deviation from the company’s own stringent safety standards. The car seat continues to meet all applicable legal requirements, but as a precautionary measure, Axkid will replace all affected products free of charge.

Minikid Core continues to meet all applicable legal requirements and has demonstrated strong safety performance across multiple test conditions, including the Swedish Plus Test, automotive testing and Axkid’s own extended testing programme.

Since its launch, Minikid Core has undergone further testing, including independent consumer testing and Axkid’s own internal testing. These later tests identified deviations from the level of performance Axkid requires. For Axkid, meeting legal requirements is only the starting point.

When Something Does Not Meet Our Standards, We Act

Axkid deliberately tests beyond legal requirements because different test environments can reveal different aspects of a child car seat’s safety and performance. The fact that Minikid Core has successfully completed demanding crash and safety testing does not mean that Axkid will disregard a result that does not meet the company’s own standards.

Axkid has initiated a voluntary recall of the affected car seats. All seats included in the recall will be replaced free of charge.

Minikid Core has successfully completed all required approvals, but our own standards go beyond the legal requirements. That is why we have decided to initiate a voluntary recall and replace all affected Minikid Core seats free of charge,” says Daniel Lundgren Safety and Compliance manager

Information for Minikid Core Owners

Customers who own a Minikid Core included in the voluntary recall should register their car seat using a form on the Axkid website. Customers will be asked to provide their car seat ID and contact details.

The recall applies only to the specified Minikid Core production batches. No other Axkid child car seats are affected.

Based on Axkid’s current safety assessment, the affected car seats can continue to be used until the replacement product arrives. Axkid will also introduce an updated version of Minikid Core. Further information about the updated version will be provided separately.

Testing Beyond Legal Requirements

Child car seats are tested in different environments and under different conditions. These tests do not replace one another; together, they provide a broader understanding of how a product performs under different circumstances.

Minikid Core has been evaluated through:

• UN R129 approval – the required regulatory approval for child car seats in Europe
• Independent consumer testing – additional testing conducted under different test conditions
• The Swedish Plus Test – one of the world’s most demanding voluntary crash tests for child car seats
• Automotive testing – testing conducted in vehicles
• Axkid’s internal testing – additional testing against Axkid’s own stringent requirements

For Axkid, testing beyond legal requirements only has value if the results are acted upon. If later testing identifies performance that does not meet the level Axkid requires, the results are investigated and appropriate action is taken.
