Axkid Nominated for Outstanding Innovation in Child Safety
Axkid's innovations are gaining international attention. At the Kind + Jugend 2024 trade fair, which will take place in Cologne in early September, the company is one of the finalists in the "Innovation Awards" category.
– We have just completed a period with several successful product launches. For younger children, it's primarily about our latest rear-facing car seat, the Axkid One 3. In addition, we are launching Axkid Up, a booster seat for older, forward-facing children. In both cases, we have been able to introduce features that are new to the market. The recognition of our innovations at an eminent and significant trade fair is a gratifying acknowledgment that gives us energy for the future, says Daniel Johansson, CEO of Axkid.
Car seats are abandoned too early
The drive to make car travel safer for children is deeply embedded in Axkid’s DNA. Due to larger head proportions and limited neck support, both Axkid and relevant research, along with Swedish authorities, agree that rear-facing travel is the safest option.
– While we continue to push the development for the youngest children, we are now shifting our focus to older children. Research from Sweden shows that car seat usage drops from around 97 percent in the youngest age groups to as low as 52 percent in the 8–11 age range. Progress is needed here if children of all ages are to be as safe as possible in traffic, says Daniel Lundgren, Safety Manager at Axkid.
The launch of Axkid Up marks a new era for the company, introducing forward-facing seats as a new product segment.
– Rear-facing travel is always the safest option, but when a child reaches a certain age, forward-facing travel can also be safe, provided that the equipment is adapted to the child’s age, height, and weight, says Daniel Lundgren.
In the development of Axkid Up, the ability to adjust the height to achieve the correct seating position has been of great importance.
– Ensuring that the seatbelt is in the optimal position to utilize the car’s own safety systems is according to Axkid one of the most critical safety aspects, concludes Daniel Lundgren, Safety Manager at Axkid.
